Multimedia group JOYNEWS has fired back at Hon. Afenyo-Markin over claims the media station is mischievous.
According to Afenyo Markin, JOY NEWS was quick to report that there is now a majority in parliament and a new minority and noted JOY NEWS is becoming notorious for misinforming and making mischief on its platform
Speaking at a press conference, Afenyo Markin said, “JOY FM you people are known for a lot of mischief, and I will encourage you no, I will say it. JOYNEWS your role as a media house is to help our democracy, JOY is becoming notorious, JOY FM is becoming notorious for misinforming and doing mischief”.
“JOY FM I am saying it today you can single me out and start your mischief to destroy my brand I don’t care. The time has come for the country to tell JOY FM that do it right and do it perfectly, don’t do the bidding of the NDC, you can black us out enough is enough”, Afenyo Markins added.
Reacting to Hon. Afenyo-Markin’s outburst against the media brand the senior news editor and head of the political desk Evans Mensah noted he is not happy about what Afenyo Markin said.
Evans Mensah said, Alexander Afenyo-Markins made an accusation against the media organization that I represent obviously you cannot be happy, but the point about his issue started yesterday. Fundamentally he said we should not describe him as the minority leader let be clear Alexander Afenyo Markin is the minority leader as we speak. The NPP is the minority in parliament as of today, the NDC is the majority party as of today and that is very clear.
He noted that Alexander Afenfo-Markin is wrong in questioning their reporting of the facts as everyone saw played out in the full glare of the country.
“We can only report that, there is a context over whether it was constitutional or not, but that context will be decided by the Supreme Court that is not our domain as Journalist who have to report what is happening in parliament. Parliament is the master of its own rules the Speaker did it in 2020, it was a law in parliament, and the Speaker has done it today it was a law in parliament. We can only report the fact”, he added.
Evans Mensah added, “To repeat the point Alexander Afenyo-Markins is wrong to question our report and to accuse us of being mischievous, we are not mischievous, when he was in parliament then in 2020 and this happened, he was happy with that decision at the time now, of course, things have flipped, he is unhappy what he cannot do is to tell a journalist not to report the fact, he is not entitled to do that.”.
Evans Mensah further reiterated that the JOY brand is bold, fearless, and credible, but above all else, they are accurate, factual, and balanced.
