The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is facing backlash on social media following claims that non-Muslims were paid to cheer for Vice President and NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during his visit to the Zongo community in Fadama, Accra, on October 6, 2024.
This event coincided with the National Maulid, the celebration of the Prophet Muhammad’s birth, led by the National Chief Imam.
Observers noted the growing support for Bawumia within the Zongo community, which was highlighted during the celebrations attended by thousands of Muslims from across the country.
The event featured dignitaries, including Bawumia and former President John Mahama.
the MC announced the expected arrival of dignitaries, starting with the National Chief Imam, followed by John Mahama and then Dr.Bawumia.
However, John Mahama unexpectedly did not attend.
Bawumia’s entry was marked by a significant show of support, but soon after, videos surfaced online showing individuals allegedly being coached and paid by the NPP to cheer for him.
This revelation has sparked outrage among users on social media, who have criticized the party for what they perceive as manipulative tactics during a religious and cultural celebration.
