A young Ghanaian woman has sparked controversy online after sharing a red flag she watches for in potential partners.
In a conversation with an online content creator, she revealed that men who speak Twi are an immediate turn-off for her.
In the video posted on X, she revealed that she admires guys who spoke good English but can’t stand men who speak Twi or blend Twi with English emphasizing on Asante men in particular.
Some men on X have expressed their displeasure with her statement, criticizing her comments as disrespectful.
@whytalk_Ef said, “Akans speak to much Twi and they are proud of it. If you are ashamed to speak your hometown language, blame your parents for making you look down on your tribe and culture. During family meetings in the US, my uncles pride in the kids who speak excellent Twi. It’s a must”.
@GhanaMayor1957 also added, “She can’t even articulate in the language she’s glorifying. Anyhoo, what she means is that the “Kumasi people” accent may sound too primitive and lack the intonation and rhythm that enhance their expressiveness”.
