The Electoral Commission says every vote that will be casted in support for the Ghana Freedom Party’s Akua Donkor will be counted as a rejected ballot.
The founder and Presidential Candidate for the Ghana Freedom Party, Madam Akua Donkor who was amongst the 13 candidates balloted for the Presidential race died weeks to the election. His party could not meet requirements necessary for her successor to be put on the ballot paper.
In awe of time and to avoid wasting lots of money to reprint the ballot papers and also I a bid not inconvenience any political party with their initial chosen numbers on the paper, the Electoral commission decided to go ahead with the printing with Akua Donkor’s picture still on it.
In a press statement, with fourteen days to the polls, the Electoral Commission has outlined a new directive for the counting of votes after the elections. It says in view of the fact that the image and party logo of the late Madam Akua Donkor remains on the ballot paper, votes casted in favor of Madam Akua Donkor will be counted as Rejected Ballot.
The Commission has urged the general public, permanent and temporal staff of the Commission and Party Agents to take note and be cautious of the new directives as well as all the other Presidential candidates
