Benjamin Akufo Darko, a volunteer of the #FixTheCountry movement, has been arrested by police service this morning for allegedly organizing the Democracy Hub protest.
This incident comes in the wake of a three-day protest organized by the Democracy Hub, which aimed to demand an end to illegal mining activities in Ghana.
The protest saw several arrests, So far, 39 people have been remanded into police and prison custody, with others, including key leader Oliver Barker-Vormawor, still awaiting court appearances.
In light of these events, a petition has been filed by lawyers representing the protesters, requesting that the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) investigate allegations of police misconduct.
The petition outlines various concerns, including unlawful arrests, detention without basic necessities like food, unprofessional conduct, and violations of the right to legal counsel.
