A video of the Kyebi and Anyinam galamsey sites surfaces has surfaced on social media.
According to Gheorghe, they had to secretly record the video of the mining sites.
They revealed that workers were operating and washing the dust into rivers with chemicals containing heavy metals.
In the viral video, galamsey activities were ongoing right close to a house.
Information suggests Kyebi is the hometown of Ghana’s President Akufo-Addo
The water bodies in Ghana have been destroyed by illegal mining activities, which have introduced harmful chemicals into them (water bodies).
There has also been research indicating that Ghana may soon import drinking water if the galamsey menace is left unchecked.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has since in a press statement dated October 9, 2024, directed the Minister for Defense to deploy additional military forces to intensify the ongoing “Operation Halt”, which aims to curb illegal mining activities.
However, Gheorghe revealed that galamsey is still ongoing despite Operation Halt being in existence again.
