Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, expressed shock at the number of people who turned up to welcome him at a campaign rally in the Akatsi North Constituency of the Volta Region.
The Volta Region is a stronghold of the opposition, National Democratic Congress (NDC), and has in its history not warmly welcomed the NPP in the region, this is evident in their voting history.
Since the formation of the Akatsi North Constituency, the NDC has always won the seat, beating the NPP by an average 10,000 votes in all elections. The NPP however made some inroads in the constituency during the 2020 elections, reducing the margin by some 1,000 votes.
It is therefore no surprise for Dr. Bawumia to be shocked by the warm reception he received in the constituency.
“Wow wow wow is this Akatsi North., is this Akatsi North.. is this Akatsi North..wow wow.. clap for yourself this is massive,” Dr. Bawumia bellowed over the microphone.
