An unidentified woman was struck to death by a car at the Spanner Junction bus stop close to Accra Mall last night.
The woman who was crossing the main road to the opposite side choose to do so on the highway rather than use the safe footbridge.
The driver of the vehicle who supposedly feared any repercussions did not stop but sped away as unsuspecting pedestrians looked on.
According to eye witnesses, the woman could have survived the first hit but unfortunately, she was run over by other vehicles plying the highway as they did not see her unconscious body in the middle of the road.
Most often than not, most pedestrians instead of using pedestrian bridges when crossing major highways in the capital rather risk their lives to do so in the middle of the highway, with some even jumping over slabs separating the traffic.
Moreover, the poor lighting on major highways in Ghana also reduces visibility, posing a threat to both motorists and pedestrians.
