A video has popped up with two military men dressed in uniform alleged to be taking bribes from galamseyers at a galamsey site.
The video shared by a galamsey operator shows the two men in uniform at the site collecting their daily ‘chop money’ to turn a blind eye to their illegal activities.
The illegal miner narrating said, “we are at site, and two soldier men came for chop money, see them they are leaving, they said they are fighting galamsey, but they came for bribes”.
Meanwhile in Accra, it is the Day 2 of the Concerned Citizens Anti-Galamsey protest has kicked off with hundreds of demonstrators marching from Okponglo to Parliament House, demanding action against illegal mining.
The demonstration, which will run until October 5, aims to highlight the ongoing environmental destruction caused by illegal mining, locally known as galamsey.
The protesters are also demanding the immediate release of 53 Democracy Hub protesters who were arrested and still in remand during an anti-galamsey demo some weeks ago.
