It was a beautiful scene at The Underbridge event centre at East Legon last Saturday when actress and media personality, Nana Ama McBrown honored the legendary Maame Dokono with a song during her 80th birthday celebration.
This was preceded by a heartwarming speech which Nana Ama gave, highlighting Maame Dokono’s legacy and expressing her love and appreciation for the veteran actress. She said, “I am very happy to be here and to be part of this amazing journey. We all know what our mother has done for us individually and also for the nation. Today, as we celebrate her birthday, we are celebrating a life full of grace and that is why she is called Grace Omaboe”.
“If you want to tap into that grace, join me sing a special song for her. Don’t expect any other song. It’s the usual birthday song”, Nana Ama further humored, and proceeded to sing the popular ‘happy birthday’ song, while showering Maame Dokono with lots of cedi notes.
Maame Dokono is a veteran Ghanaian actress, singer and TV personality, known widely for her iconic television drama ‘Obra’, which aired in the early 2000s and was one of the longest-showing and most popular TV shows in Ghana at the time.
As she recently turned 80, the actress hosted an iconic party which saw in attendance various on-screen personalities and celebrities that she used to share the screens with, as well as her children and loved ones.
The event was also to commemorate her 60years in the movie industry and was also highlighted by the launch of her book “Unforgettable Maame Dokono”, which is basically a ticket into her personal and career life, answering almost every question that Ghanaians have asked about ‘Maame Dokono’ over the years, and providing a guide for raising younger generations.
