Ghanaians were seen celebrating at the Accra Sports Stadium after Black Stars forward, Mohammed Kudus missed a spot kick in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Niger on Monday.
To the surprise of many, the stadium erupted into a moment of unprecedented joy, with Ghanaian fans having a hearty laugh and hugging each other after the miss.
What makes matters worse was that the fans got into the head of Kudus before the penalty kick. Immediately Kudus stood behind the ball to take the spot kick, Ghanaian fans were loudly clapping and chanting “away, away” an indication that they wanted Kudus to miss the penalty.
Truly, the penalty was missed and they couldn’t help but jubilate.
The team lost to Niger in a 2:1 defeat at the Accra Sports stadium in their final 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers match.
The Black Stars of Ghana put on an abysmal performance in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers to the disapproval of Ghanaians.
The team failed to win any of their matches, finishing at the bottom of Group F with just three points, having suffered three defeats and three draws, with two of those defeats at home.
The Black Stars’ failure to qualify for AFCON 2025 marks a historic low for Ghanaian football, prompting widespread criticism of the team’s performance and the leadership of the GFA.
Following this abysmal performance, Ghanaians have called for the dismissal of Black Stars coach, Otto Addo and the dissolvement of the Black Stars management committee.
