The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, commonly known as Wontumi, has pledged that prospective university students will only need a Ghana Card to apply for admission if Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is elected in the upcoming December polls.
Speaking at a campaign launch in the Subin Constituency, Wontumi highlighted that the introduction of Free University Education would build on the success of the Free Senior High School (SHS) program, reinforcing the NPP’s commitment to enhancing access to education across the country.
He also urged eligible voters, including those from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), to support the NPP to protect the Free Senior High School program that they currently benefit from, which he claims could be canceled by the NDC.
He emphasized that the NDC is known for canceling policies, citing the National Health Insurance Scheme’s free maternal health care, which was introduced by former President J. A. Kufuor but later scrapped by the NDC.
Wontumi pointed out that former President Mahama and the NDC government had promised to uphold all policies initiated by President Kufuor but failed to do so, arguing that the NDC cannot be trusted to safeguard the Free SHS program.
