Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has detailed that under the John Mahama administration, the Bank of Ghana made profits and built the Bank Hospital.
According to Sammy Gyamfi, the new BoG headquarters’ is the biggest misplaced priority in Ghana at the time the central bank is making a whopping 60 billion cedis losses.
Speaking on Good Morning Ghana, Sammy Gyamfi said, “This building you are talking about actually triggers pain in the hearts of many Ghanaians, the bank of Ghana two years ago procured a loss of 60 billion cedis do you know that last year 10.5 billion cedis, even before that the Bank of Ghana made losses”.
“Under John Mahama, the Bank of Ghana made profits and decided to use the profit to build a hospital, the Bank Hospital, which became a safe haven for you appointees of this government when COVID struck, that is what the visionary John Mahama and the Bank of Ghana did in our time when we were making a profit, we were building a hospital”, he added.
Sammy Gyamfi further emphasized, “You have been making losses because you have been printing money to finance the corruption and wastefulness of this government, and even at the time you making huge losses, at the time the Bank has signed an MOU with the government for the government to re-capital it with our taxes you have taken $250m and dumped that in a so-called headquarters building”.
Meanwhile, the new BoG headquarters was commissioned by President Akufo-Addo on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, despite strong opposition from the minority in parliament and some Ghanaians.
The new $250m Bank of Ghana headquarters contains three main blocks, the Tower, Urban and Amenities Blocks including basements, podiums, and ancillary facilities.
