The youth of Sekyere Krobo faced of with some Chinese nationals involved in galamsey in the community, resulting in two persons being shot.

The youth who rose up against the Chinese in a bid to stop them from destroying their water bodies were met with fierce resistance from the Chinese.

It is believed the Chinese galamseyers have the backing of some notable chiefs in the area, thereby being emboldened to engage in this illegality.

The two youth shot are in critical condition receiving treatment at the Ahmadiyya Hospital in the community.

The police in the area have, however, arrested the Chinese galamseyers, taking them through due process.

Various protests have erupted in Ghana, calling for the government to put a ban on mining. The calls have heightened as galamsey activities have resulted in the destruction of the nation’s water bodies and forest reserves.
