Dr Juliet Ohemeng-Ntiamoah a US-based Licensed Professional Engineer has revealed that the treatment of muddy galamsey water does not remove heavy metals.
In an interview on Newsfile on Saturday, October 5, 2024, the Professional Engineer clarified that the standard water treatment process addresses turbidity but fails to eliminate harmful metals.
“With the treatment process of muddy waters, we remove the muddy side or the turbidity but then there is still residual heavy metals concentration that is not removed by the water treatment process and to be able to remove that, we need to add an additional process unit,” Dr Ohemeng-Ntiamoah stated.
She further added that the destruction cause to the river bodies by illegal miners is far more serious than just the muddiness seen in polluted rivers across the country.
