Prior to the election of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) claimed the election will be a walk in the park for them if he (Bawumia) leads the NPP going into the 2024 elections.
According to Communications Director of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, if Dr. Bawumia was elected flagbearer, the NDC will not even bother to campaign as their victory was assured either way.
“I will be the happiest person in this world if the NPP chooses Bawumia as their next flagbearer. Doing so makes our work so much easier. We won’t even campaign,” he stated.
However, the election of Dr. Bawumia as NPP flagbearer has not been easy for the NDC. It has compelled the NDC to embark on a series of intensive campaigns and different initiatives.
Although most polls claim the NDC is going to win at the December 7, 2024 polls, the innovative political advertisements and campaigns have been spearheaded by the NPP, with the NDC reacting to them and putting out similar ones.
The election of Dr. Bawumia as NPP flagbearer seems to have intensified the commitment and work of the NDC, rather than refuse to campaign all together as boasted by Sammy Gyamfi.
