Former Supreme Court Judge Justice William Atuguba (RTD), expressed serious concerns about what he describes as the “state capture” of Ghana.
In a recent interview He emphasized that this phenomenon represents a significant negation of the constitution, warning that the country is currently facing critical issues regarding governance and the rule of law.
“Let’s be honest,” he said. “There is state capture in this country, and it constitutes a violation of our constitutional principles.”
Justice Atuguba pointed out that fundamental rights, such as freedom of speech and the right to economic welfare, are not being upheld.
He referenced the directive principles of state policy, underscoring the importance of ensuring that democracy meets the basic needs of its citizens.
“The most secure democracy is one that is able to fulfill the basic needs of its people,” he asserted. “Is that where we stand today? Our democracy is not secure if it fails to meet these needs.”
