Member of Parliament for the Banda Constituency, Ahmed Ibrahim has said, the NPP was trying to set up the Speaker of Parliament by calling for Parliament meeting with the intention of citing him up for contempt if he did not heed to the call.
He made these allegations against the NPP during an interview with Neat F.M’s Mac Jerry Osei Agyeman on November 8, 2024.
According to him, before the calling of Parliament, there is supposed to be a business committee meeting without the Speaker of Parliament but the NPP did leader did not call for any business committee meeting before calling for Parliament to reconvene. He shrugged off the calls by K.T Hammond of citing the speaker for contempt.
He shared that, the reason behind the first adjournment of Parliament was for leaders of the various factions to find resolution to what was happening through dialogues. He said the NPP led by Afenyo Markin, failed all these concensus meetings and dialogues, but rather resorted to throwing dust into the eyes of the pubic and running to the court.
He further shared that, after a failed attempt to set up the Speaker of Parliament and cite him for contempt, the leader of government business needs to swallow his pride and go beg Speaker Alban Bagbin. He added the way forward is to go apologize to the speaker because, this eighth parliament has put the speaker through a lot.
“The way forward is that the leader of government business must swallow his Pride and go apologize to the speaker because, Bagbin has suffered in the hands of both the NDC and NPP”, he said.
