Coach Otto Addo has expressed his disappointment in his team’s inability to qualify for the 2025 AFCON tournament to be held in Morocco.
After a woeful display of performance in front of home crowd, the Black Stars failed to at least keep a win to put smiles on the face of Ghanaians against Niger. The team suffered yet another humiliation at the mercies of the Nigerienes. They lost by 2:1 with Kudus Mohammed missing late minute’s penalty to edge the team at level with their counterparts.
In a post-match conference, the gaffer apologized to the media and Ghanaians for not qualifying to the AFCON. He said even though a lot of people rank the world cup ahead of the AFCON, he personally holds a different view. He shared that, to him, the AFCON tournament is way bigger than the world cup and not being able to qualify hurts him personally.
He asked that Ghanaians forgive their failure to see the team display their talent on the African continent next year. He called on them to support and back them to be able to qualify for the world cup in 2026. The next qualifiers for the World Cup comes off in March 2025
