There was heavy gunfire on Wednesday afternoon October 9,2024 at the Missiga Immigration Service checkpoint in Bawku after a disagreement ensued between personnel of the Ghana Police Service and Customs.
According to reliable security sources, tempers flared up after some police officers refused to allow their counterparts from Customs to inspect the content of a truck moving into neighboring Togo.
The Customs suspected the truck to be transporting bags of smuggled cocoa beans and demanded to investigate.
The resistance by the police resulted in an intense gunfire from both State security agencies.
It took the intervention of soldiers to bring the situation under control.
