The controversy surrounding the declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant will be resolved today by the Supreme Court, which is set to deliver its judgment on the disputed decision made by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.
Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus in Parliament, initiated the legal challenge against Speaker Bagbin’s declaration of the Fomena, Suhum, Amenfi Central, and Agona West seats as vacant.
This decision arose after MPs announced their intentions to contest the upcoming parliamentary elections as independent candidates, with Fomena in particular being represented by an independent MP who was previously affiliated with the NPP.
Ahead of the ruling.
Afenyo-Markin has called on the press to refrain from addressing him as the leader of the NPP caucus insisting his position as the Majority Leader in Parliament cannot be changed.
