Ghanaian gospel singer, songwriter, and philanthropist, Sonnie Badu, has noted that, Michael Blackson’s recent comment on social media has ruined the country’s reputation.
The US-based Ghanaian actor and comedian, recently called out Ghana’s Ministry of Finance for putting him in a state of financial crisis after he lost money he invested in the government’s Eurobond Investment.
In an interview on GHone, Sonnie Badu disagreed on how Michael Blackson went on social media to rant about his issues with the government.
“This guy is an international figure and everything he says carries a lot weight what he’s done has damaged Ghana big time because what it’s going to do is tell everyone don’t go and invest in Ghana” he argued.
He believes that as Africans, these situations happen everywhere not just in Ghana hence his calling out government was uncalled for.
“It’s happening everywhere, where people think about their pockets first before impact, where people don’t envision the future, they want it now but when you go to the white man’s land, they plan things 200 years ahead, 50 years ahead even if they don’t make nothing and even if it doesn’t benefit them they will rather it benefits their children to come” he explained.
Michael Blackson in his post on social media, lamented on not listening to his financial advisor’s warning not to invest, expressing his disappointment in his motherland for breaking his trust, and further vowed to take Ghana to the world court.
According to him, the investment was his support plan for funding the non-profit school he built in Ghana, however, due to Ghana’s debt restructuring, which has been termed the ‘haircut’, his plan has now gone haywire as he will now receive only 1.95% in interest instead of the initial 10% at his time of agreement.
