Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has revealed a piece of shocking news to Ghanaians.
According to Sammy Gyamfi, the new BoG headquarters was supposed to cost Ghanaians $81m, not $250m.
Speaking on Good Morning Ghana, Sammy Gyamfi said, “You have 250 million dollars you won’t invest that in a productive venture, something that can improve the livelihood of Ghanaians and create jobs, or even pay the people you owe you are spending that on a headquarters, and you are happy”.
“A building that was initially supposed to cost 81 million dollars has now transmogrified into a 250-dollar building and we don’t even know if they have exceeded that one, the whole project is shrouded with procurement breaches”, he added.
Sammy Gyamfi further disclosed that the Bank of Ghana spent some 50 million dollars to renovate its existing headquarters saying, “This is a few years after the Bank of Ghana spent $50m to renovate its existing headquarters, you have renovated your existing headquarters at 50 million dollars that was not enough, at the time you are making unprecedented losses, at the time Ghanaians are suffering”.
The new BoG headquarters was commissioned by President Akufo-Addo on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, despite strong opposition from the minority in parliament and some Ghanaians.
The new $250m Bank of Ghana headquarters contains three main blocks, the Tower, Urban and Amenities Blocks including basements, podiums, and ancillary facilities.
