Renowned Ghanaian media personality, Serwaa Amihere, has taken to social media to lead a campaign advocating for better wages and timely payments for street sweepers employed by Zoomlion.
This follows the recent revelation of the sweepers getting paid Ghc250 a month and being owed arrears for 9 months.
In a heartfelt post on her X account, Serwaa expressed her disappointment upon learning the sweepers are currently receiving a meager monthly wage of GHS 250, and has been in arrears for several months.
She urged Ghanaians to support her campaign and raise awareness by drawing the attention of President Akufo-Addo, the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), and the management of Zoomlion to not only settle the outstanding arrears but also increase the salaries of the workers.
“Dear Ghanaians, I am pleading with you to join me on an awareness campaign to draw the attention of President Akufo-Addo, YEA and Management of Zoomlion to first pay the outstanding arrears and increase the monthly wages”.
Highlighting the current economic challenges and high cost of living in Ghana, she stated emphatically that the wages paid to sweepers are inadequate and the workers deserved better.
Serwaa pleaded with Ghanaians to join her create awareness by using the hashtag #PayZoomlionSweepersBetter to demand fair treatment and better wages for the sweepers.
For some time now the media personality’s public image has been significantly affected following the recent leak of an intimate video where she was seen having an affair with a married man known as Henry Fitz on his wedding day.
Serwaa after the leaked video publicly apologized for the embarrassment caused by the incident and explained that the video was recorded years ago.
