Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has revealed that the Bank of Ghana spent $50m a few years ago to renovate their existing headquarters.
Sammy Gyamfi was reacting to President Akufo-Addo commissioning the New $250m Bank of Ghana headquarters in Accra.
Speaking on Good Morning Ghana, Sammy Gyamfi said, “You have been making losses because you have been printing money to finance the corruption and wastefulness of this government, and even at the time you making huge losses, at the time the Bank has signed an MOU with the government for the government to re-capital it with our taxes you have taken $250m and dumped that in a so-called headquarters building”.
“This is a few years after the Bank of Ghana spent $50m to renovate its existing headquarters, you have renovated your existing headquarters at 50 million dollars that was not enough, at the time you are making unprecedented losses, at the time Ghanaians are suffering”, Sammy Gyamfi added.
The new BoG headquarters was commissioned by President Akufo-Addo on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, despite strong opposition from the minority in parliament and some Ghanaians.
The new $250m Bank of Ghana headquarters contains three main blocks, the Tower, Urban and Amenities Blocks including basements, podiums, and ancillary facilities.
