Vice presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, has condemned the arrest of innocent Ghanaians from the Democracy Hub who were protesting against illegal mining in the country.
She urged the government to quickly release these lawful protesters currently in police custody.
42 young Ghanaians were arrested by police during what authorities described as an unlawful assembly at the 37 Lorry Station near Revolutionary Square.
Speaking to journalists in Bogoso during her campaign tour, Professor Opoku Agyemang criticized the government for harassing innocent youth who are simply demanding their rights.
She emphasized the need to focus on “big people” in Accra who are involved in galamsey activities.
Her spokesperson, James Agyenim Boateng, highlighted concerns about the treatment of the arrested protesters, noting that pregnant women and others are being denied basic necessities, including access to food, water, family, and legal counsel
