The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Mahama has stated Private schools should be included in the Free SHS policy.
During John Mahama’s meet the clergy in the Ashanti region, he asserted that some communities are without a public school. Still, because of Free SHS, the parents in those communities have abandoned the private schools in the community for the public ones.
John Mahama stated, “When the government started Free SHS they set aside the private schools, if you go to somewhere in Nzema there was a private school there which was full of students, when they started Free SHS parents went to get their wards out of the private school to the public schools because they won’t pay”.
“What I am saying is that that is the only school in that community and there is no public school there, but they were able to take the children from another school in a different community where there is a public school, and the children are suffering due, they have overcrowded the school”, he added.
He further reiterated, “In those cases, private schools must be added to the Free SHS for the children to have peace of mind to learn.
