The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the tragic killing of Mohammed Zakiu Wunpini, a pharmacy student at the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Dungu. Zakiu, was found dead on the evening of September 25, 2024, with multiple stab wounds in an uncompleted building located between the Citadel and Kumbung hostels on campus.
Initial reports suggest that the level 200 student Zakiu’s motorcycle and phone are missing, raising suspicions of robbery.
He had reportedly gone out to watch a football match with a friend that evening but did not return.
In response to the incident, university authorities, including the Vice Dean, Dean of Students, and head of Security, held an emergency meeting and visited the regional police office on Friday for updates on the ongoing investigation.
The campus community is in shock and mourning as students and staff await more information regarding their colleague’s tragic death.
Zakiu’s final funeral rites are set to take place today, September 30, 2024, at Gumani around Oasis Restaurant. Meanwhile, police are actively pursuing leads in the investigation.
