Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo, also known as Nana Agyekum Addo, the Nkabomhene of New Juaben and CEO of KAMA Group of Companies, has passed away following a brief illness in Accra. Known for his contributions to Ghana’s pharmaceutical industry and local entrepreneurship, Dr. Agyekum Addo founded KAMA Group in 1986, growing it into a prominent conglomerate with outlets across the country. He also diversified into finance, real estate, and education through initiatives like the Kama Education Project, which promotes entrepreneurial skills among young students.
A graduate of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) with degrees in Pharmacy and Industrial Management, he was awarded a PhD from KNUST earlier this year. He shared in interviews his personal financial challenges stemming from the impact of Ghana’s banking sector cleanup, which affected his retirement savings.
Dr. Agyekum Addo was not only a successful entrepreneur but also a respected community leader who served as Nkabomhene, or Unity Chief, in New Juaben since 2016, emphasizing community cohesion. He promoted local culture, advocating for the health benefits of traditional Koforidua beads, which he encouraged for their cultural significance and impact on wellness.
