A Ghanaian user on X with the handle @CastinBillz, says the quality of Ghana’s Members of Parliament (MP) has declined over time.
According to him, the current crop of MPs cannot compare to MPs in the 9th Parliament (2001 – 2005).
He described the 9th Parliament as filled with intellectuals who debated on issues and resolved conflicts amicably.
“No disrespect! 80% of the NDC MPs you’re watching today wouldn’t qualify to be members of the 2001 and 2005 Parliament. The house was full of intellectuals, sharp sharp MPs, they debated as intellectuals and not the Sam George type of MPs, kukrutiiii who are always ready to resort to hands than to use their heads,” his post read.
Parliamentary proceedings have been suspended indefinitely following an impasse between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The Speaker of Parliament described the NDC as the Majority group following the declaration of 4 seats vacant.
The former Majority group, the NPP took the speaker’s decision to Supreme Court, which put a stay on the speaker’s decision.
The Speaker has also filed an appeal at the Supreme Court to stay its orders regarding Parliament’s ruling to declare four parliamentary seats vacant.
No disrespect!
80% of the NDC MPs you’re watching today wouldn’t qualify to be members of the 2001 and 2005 Parliament.
