The Presidential candidate of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has said only a president who is foolish or has mental issue would stop galamsey two months before elections.
Speaking in a one-on-one interview with Atinka TV, the LPG’s presidential candidate stated emphatically, “at this time even if it was you who is president you won’t do it. Only a foolish or a mental president will say he is going to sack illegal miners from site, two months to the election only a foolish president will do that”.
Mr. Akpaloo stated that this is not the correct time to stop illegal mining, he cited an old campaign from the media which attracted support due to it timing being appropriate.
“In 2008 President Kufuor made silly similar mistake, In Kumasi they arrested some drivers for parking wrongly and breaking other rules before they realize they lost”.
Meanwhile, The Ghana Water Company has stated on numerous time they are unable to treat the water for its consumers due to the turbidity of the water from this galamsey affected rivers, forcing the company’s treatment plant in some regions to shut down on some occasions.
