The member of parliament of North Tongu Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa has fired back at the running mate of the New Patriotic Party Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh for claiming he led the development of an LGBTQ curriculum for school children when he was a deputy education minister.
Speaking on a campaign platform in Kumasi-Bantama NAPO accused the NDC led by Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa for including the comprehensive sexuality education in the curriculum for school children.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh stated boldly, “the NDC had already developed a curriculum that include school children being taught that thing, the person who brought it was Okudzeto Ablakwa, they took Pastors and Imams to towns and communities and told teachers to teach how a boy kisses a boy, how a female and a female sleep together”
Reacting to NAPO allegation MP Ablakwa, took to his X and challenging NAPO to produce the pro-LGBTQ curriculum he claimed he prepared.
Ablakwa wrote, “When you say a prayer, please say one for Napo. He really needs help. I challenge him to produce the pro-LGBTQ curriculum he claims I prepared. I also challenge him to provide the names of pastors and imams who went round the country with me promoting LGBTQ. Desperate concoctions and outright falsehoods would not revive the failed Bawumia/Napo campaign”.
In November 2018, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) pushed for sexual and reproductive health education in Ghana to be fused into the education system.
The controversial Comprehensive Sexuality Education for school children was then proposed by the government, it sparked up negative reactions from Ghanaians, fighting against the idea of introducing issues relating to sexuality to children at a very young age.
There was controversy about the curriculum with some of the speculations centered around fears on sensitization on sexuality and LGBTQ ideas.
