Media personality Bridget Otoo has taken aim at Dr. Ekua Amoakoh, the NPP spokesperson for health, who recently defended the government’s handling of medical professionals’ allowances.
Otoo remarked, “I have made peace with this. The party selects who can lie with a straight face and puts them on a platform.”
In a heated discussion on GHOne, Dr. Amoakoh responded to claims that doctors had not been paid, stating, “That is a lie. I know a colleague of mine, Rachel, who has been paid.”
She acknowledged ongoing issues with allowances for the latest PharmD graduates, particularly those from 2022. Reflecting on her own experiences, she noted, “When I was in that position, my allowance was around 800 cedis, while the base salary was over 4,000 cedis.”
Frustrated by what she labeled as “falsehoods” in partisan politics, Dr. Amoakoh commented, “It’s quite embarrassing to come on a public forum and spew inaccuracies.”
She also pointed to the recent appeals made by PharmD graduates to the Vice President, which have yet to produce a resolution.
During the discussion, Dr. Amoakoh pressed for clarity, asking, “So which payments are you referring to?” This underscored her commitment to addressing misinformation amidst the ongoing narratives surrounding the issue.
In a related development, the 2022 batch of Doctors of Pharmacy (PharmD) announced their intention to sue the government on August 24, 2024, due to a year-long delay in salary payments.
At a recent media briefing, the PharmD officers reiterated their demands and confirmed they have notified the Attorney-General.
@DrEAmoakoh This is quite embarrassing to come on a public forum n spew falsehood in the name of partisan politics. The latest victims of PharmDs, 2022 had to appeal to the Veep to resolve this issue n to no avail as we speak
