The New patriotic party (NPP) leadership in Tempane are calling on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, the Ministrer of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Stephen Asamoah Boateng to take immediate cause to arrest the rival chief of Bawku Alhaji Seidu Abagre to bring lasting peace in Kusaug.
This comes on the back of escalating tensions between the Kusasis and Mamprusi’s in recent days that has so far claimed the lives of about 10 people following the return of Seidu Abagre, whose enskinment has heightened tensions causing a halt to all political activities in the area.
There is heavy security deployment to the area and a dusk to dawn curfew to maintain peace.
But the NPP in Tempane at a press conference yesterday urged the government to uphold the Supreme Court rulings of 1958, 1995, and 2003, which affirms the legitimacy of the Kusasi leadership in Bawku.
They also want security tightened on the Walewale road to ensure the safety of all travellers and residents and to prevent further unrest in the region.
They called on all stakeholders to prioritize dialogue, unity, and respect for legal processes to ensure stability in the Kusaug Traditional Area and urged the government to act swiftly to address the underlying issues and maintain peace.
