Entertainment pundit, MC Yaa Yeboah, has criticized the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what she describes as the weakest manifesto regarding Ghana’s creative industry.
Speaking on UTV’s “United Showbiz” show, she expressed disappointment with the current government. She illustrated that despite access to the monetary data and value of the space, the party lacks concrete plans to support the sector.
“The NPP can tell us exactly how much money the creative industry generates, and yet, their manifesto is one of the weakest. They have access to all the data and facts, but still, their promises remain vague,” she said.
She also emphasized that while political parties often outline similar proposals, such as establishing a creative arts fund and building auditoriums, they fail to offer specific timelines, making it difficult for stakeholders to hold them accountable.
“I see similarities in all the manifestos presented by these political parties especially when it comes to the creative industry. People think we can’t hold our leaders accountable but the answer is because they always give us vague promises.”
MC Yeboah again highlighted the growing significance of the creative industry in Ghana’s economy. She pointed out that the government’s newfound attention to the sector is due to its notable contribution to the country’s GDP.
“The reason they’ve put premium to the space is because they’ve realized how significant the sector contributes to the growth of the country’s GDP rate,” she added.
Despite this, she feels more needs to be done in terms of policy and commitment to truly elevate the industry.
