Awal Mohammed a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communication team has boldly stated the dollar moving from GHS4 to GHS12 is better than NDC’s GHS1.2 to GHS4.
According to Awal Mohammed, former president Kufuor left the cedi to the dollar at 1.2, and the NDC took it to 4.2 which in percentage terms is a 300% increment, he then again asserted that the NPP took it from 4.2 to 12 which in percentage terms is around 200%.
He asserted that with the percentage of 200 to the NDC’s 300% the NPP is a better manager of the currency than the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a flashback video posted by TV3 Awal Mohammed speaking on the TV3 NewDay morning show claimed, “They took it from 1.2 to 4.2 right, Kufuor left it at 1.2 they took it to 4.2 when you check the percentage increment is over 300%, 4.2 to 12 what is the percentage it is around 200%, so the level of depreciation when you check indeed, we are better managers of the currency”.
“I am saying that from 1.2 to 4.2 is over 300%, and now it was 4.2 to around 11 because when you check it is around 11.9 the last time I checked so when you check indeed, we are better managers of the currency than them”, he further boldly claimed.
Meanwhile, today the cedi continues to experience varied depreciation levels under the current Akufo-Addo and Bawumia government with the cedi trading at GH¢17.00 to a dollar.
The recent depreciation of the Ghana cedi against the major foreign currencies is expected to continue due to subdued foreign exchange liquidity.
