A gang of thieves have been terrorizing residents of Awutu Okwampa in the Central region for a long time, stealing high tension cables, plunging the community into darkness in a frequent manner.
Residents who have been angered by this frequent occurrence have been on the lookout for such thieves, but they have always evaded them until recently.
An unidentified young man who was finally caught stealing high tension cables suffered a great deal at the hands of residents and at a point feared his life was going to be snuffed out of him.
The community’s watchdog team after catching this unnamed thief subjected him to severe beatings and torture. The thief who suffered open wounds from the beatings was then tied to an electric pole going through immense pain, to severe as a deterrent to others.
The thief who feared for his life started begging for mercy, telling the irate youth, ““I will not steal again, Please spare my life, I don’t want to die young.”
Instant justice has become predominant in many parts of Ghana, resulting in death in some cases. Some Ghanaians choose to take matters into their own hands and teach thieves a lesson out of past experiences, and dissatisfaction of punishment meted out to these criminals.
