The Paramount Chief of the Goaso Traditional Area in the Ahafo Region, Nana Akwasi Bosompra, has made it clear that illegal mining will not be tolerated in his community.
He stressed the urgent need to address the environmental devastation caused by galamsey.
In a recent interview, Nana Bosompra remarked that the governing party should not destroy the precious legacy left by their ancestors.
“Our top priority must be the reclamation of our environment from the ravages of galamsey.
We cannot be the generation that destroys the invaluable heritage bequeathed to us by our forefathers for the greed of a few miscreants,” he stated.
He recounted a recent incident where he received information about illegal mining activities in his area. Following his public warning, he noted that within an hour, the illegal miners left the site.
‘’I was informed about an illegal mining that was taking effect in my community, after my warning on a radio station within an hour the illegal miners left the site’’.
Additionally, Nana Bosompra urged the government to take decisive action to protect water sources from the destruction caused by illegal mining activities.
