Nana Frimpong Ziega, a political commentator, has said no government can ban galamsey unless it imposes a death sentence.
Speaking on United Showbiz on 5 October 2024, Nana Frimpong Ziega noted that people are calling for a total ban on mining entirely which he deems as impossible.
He said, “The demonstration happening you can do the demonstration, but the moment you make it political then you will also get your opposition, that will come for you. First, they said we are demonstrating about the polluted rivers Pra River, Birim, and other rivers for it to become clean”.
“Now the other political party is telling you that you are sitting in Accra, you don’t know what is happening at Praso but you have seen videos, meanwhile Odawna is polluted, Korle Lagoon is polluted so why won’t you add everything and demonstrate against polluted rivers in the country.
He noted that the fight against galamsey is not an easy fight adding that, “the only way we can fight galamsey is death sentence, no government can stop galamsey, no amount of militant, no government can stop galamsey unless it imposes a death sentence”. He reiterated boldly.
