Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed a scheme which will ensure the prompt payment of allowances to student nurses.
Dr. Bawumia revealed he is working together with the Ministry of Finance to implement this scheme as part of measures to improve the healthcare system should he be voted to office.
Addressing students and teachers at the Lekma Nursing Training College during a campaign event, he said, “In the 2016 campaign I was very adamant and the party was adamant that God willing when we come we will restore the nursing training allowances that were cancelled, and we have restored the nursing training allowance.
There may be delays…yes
, allowance delayed is better than allowance cancelled and we will continue to make sure. I am working with the ministry of finance on a scheme and way to make sure we don’t have delays (in paying allowances). So I am hoping that we can eliminate this issue of delays for all of you.
There is a lot more we are going to do to help the healthcare system when I become president I want to continue to empower all of you to improve your conditions of service” he stated.
Dr. Bawumia pledged to also re-introduce the car import duty waiver for nurses which was cancelled by former president Mahama. “The car import duty waiver for nurses… I am bringing it back.”
