In a recent social media storm, prominent figures in Ghana, including Nana Aba Anamoah, Tracy Sarkcess, Kwame Sefa Kayi, and Serwaa Amihere, have been implicated in allegations of receiving funds from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) through their NGO initiatives to promote government-related content.
The backlash arose after Ghanaian influencer KalyJay revealed he was approached by NPP operatives, who allegedly offered him $50,000 to create an NGO as a channel for receiving payments in exchange for publicizing the government’s achievements. KalyJay claims he declined the offer, choosing not to participate.
In the wake of his statement, several social media users speculated that certain public personalities had accepted similar deals.
Nana Aba Anamoah’s “Hearts Wide Open” foundation has been notably active in promoting government projects, which led to assumptions about the NGO’s involvement with NPP funds.
Tracy Sarkcess, wife of popular rapper Sarkodie, has also been a subject of discussion, as some users connected her family’s known NPP sympathies with her foundation’s work. Likewise, Kwame Sefa Kayi’s Kokrokoo Foundation and Serwaa Amihere’s foundation have also come under scrutiny for allegedly receiving political funding to support government narratives.
