Self-acclaimed largest gold exporter in Ghana and National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Amenfi Central, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has pledged to bring investors to develop mining lands within the constituency.
According to her, Ghana is blessed with mineral resources which should be used to help the citizenry.
She disclosed that the people of Amenfi Central have poor roads and lack basic necessities of life, calling on government to take advantage of the gold deposits in the community, using them to grow the constituency.
“There is so much gold in the whole country and when you look at the minerals commission they have more than 2,000 licenses issued in the small scale mining sector and 60-100 are really actively working and the large scale we have about 9 – 10 actively working,” Joana who is allegedly involved in the illegal mining businesses said in a campaign video.
Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, Vice Presidential candidate of the NDC, in a recent campaign trail to the Amenfi Central constituency mounted the stage alongside Joana Gyan Cudjoe, and promised not to ban illegal mining, but rather train small scale miners to engage in sustainable mining, devoid of water pollution.
