A youth group affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region, known as NDC Ashanti Youth for Mahama, has called on John Dramani Mahama to distance himself from Rev. Isaac Owusu-Bempah, the Founder of Glorious Word Power Ministries International.
In a statement released on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, the group expressed dismay over Owusu-Bempah’s involvement at a recent gathering of religious leaders on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, where he played a prominent role. The group found it surprising that Mahama would welcome Owusu-Bempah, given his previous criticisms and opposition to Mahama in the past.
“We are deeply disappointed that despite Apostle Owusu-Bempah’s negative stance toward John Mahama in the past, he was given such a significant role during the event,” the group lamented in their statement.
They also questioned the necessity of Owusu-Bempah’s presence, pointing out that Prophet Ebenezer Adarkwa-Yiadom, also known as Opambour, had already offered prayers for Mahama at the event. “His presence was unnecessary since Prophet Opambour had already prayed for our Flagbearer. We did not need Apostle Owusu-Bempah’s involvement,” the group noted.
The youth group urged the NDC leadership to cut all ties with Owusu-Bempah, arguing that his support was insincere and that he had previously aligned himself with the New Patriotic Party (NPP). “We strongly urge the leadership to distance themselves from Apostle Owusu-Bempah, as his loyalty to the NDC is questionable,” they stated.
Rev. Owusu-Bempah’s appearance and sudden shift in support have caused controversy, especially given his history of publicly criticizing Mahama while supporting the NPP.
