Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO and running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of insinuating a “shoot and kill” approach to address the galamsey menace.
Speaking at a recent rally in Bogoso, NAPO criticized the NDC for suggesting extreme measures to combat the menace. He claims that the opposition party is advocating for violent tactics in their bid to secure electoral victory.
“Now that the NDC wants to win power, they are telling the NPP to shoot to kill galamseyers? We will not shoot anyone, neither today nor tomorrow,” NAPO said.
The issue of illegal mining has become highly politicized, with both parties facing criticism over their handling of the environmental crisis.
NAPO’s comments add to the continuous politicization of the fight against illegal mining. Rather than address the situation head-on, the political parties in their quest to win power persist the blame game
