The Chief Whip for the National Democratic Congress caucus in Parliament, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has sent a strong warning to the Ghana Armed Forces ahead of parliament sitting on Tuesday 22 October 2024.
According to a member of parliament Governs Agbodza they have picked up hints that the government is planning to deploy the military into the precincts of parliament again.
Speaking during a press conference held by the NDC members of parliament on October 2024, MP Agbodza said, “We are aware that between yesterday and today government some element of government had a meeting again to deploy the military to the precinct of parliament to enter the tent”
“We are aware of that you can just ask those around Accra Sports Stadium that at a point in time tomorrow they repeat the same misconduct, we can guarantee them the people of this country are sovereign, if you wear a military uniform or a Police uniform you work to the constitution”, MP Agbodza added.
Hon. Agbodza further went on to warn the military officers that the Akufo-Addo Bawumia government just had two months left and they would have to account for what happened on January 7, 2021.
“But they should be aware that the life of this government is less than 2 months they will have to account for their conduct in 2020 and whatever they do tomorrow, but they shouldn’t be surprised if the people of this country react forcefully to any misconduct of anybody in uniform on Tuesday and beyond”, he reiterated.
Meanwhile, at the same press conference by the NDC caucus, Hon Agbodza pointed fingers at the Akufo-Addo Bawumia government for deploying the military to parliament in January 2021 to assault MPs. “If you notice on that faithful day of the beginning of this parliament it was the government that ordered the military and the police to enter the chamber and assault members of parliament”, Hon. Governs Agbodza revealed boldly.
