Managing editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr has lashed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with their own Constitution.
According to Kwesi Pratt Jnr, the NPP in their constitution enacted for themselves a provision that says that anytime any member of parliament or any other member contests against your party candidate that person automatically loses his or her membership of your party.
Speaking on Good Morning Ghanan, Kwesi Pratt Jnr said, “So let’s take the case of Cynthia Morrison, she is contesting against the candidate of the NPP by virtual of your constitution she automatically loses her memberships you don’t have to make any proclamation you don’t have to go through any process, just by filing against your candidate she automatically loses her membership”.
“Then at the same time, you go to parliament arguing that he should represent the party that has removed her as a member where is the logic in this? Where is the sense in this, why do you make the application of logic so difficult for yourselves and everybody?”, he reiterated.
Kwesi Pratt Jnr also asserted that the Constitution which provides the legal frame for parliament to conduct its business is so clear that even babies can read the provisions and understand them.
“If you go to the Constitution which provides us with the legal frame, for the conduct of business in parliament, it is so clear that even this clamor for interpretation by the Supreme Court is absolutely nonsensical because the provisions are so clear even babies can read these provisions and understand them”, Kwesi Pratt Jnr boldly claimed.
Meanwhile the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin on 22 October 2024 adjourned parliamentary proceedings indefinitely, citing the lack of a quorum as the reason for halting the session and briefly mentioned that he had received a communication from the Supreme Court.
