Member of Parliament for Bongo constituency, Edward Bawa, has called on the Attorney General to advocate for the rights of victims affected by the explosion during a controlled rock blast on the Kasoa-Buduburam road expansion project on October 14, 2024.
About 39 others were injured in the late afternoon tragedy. Those killed were two females and a male.
Residents of the area who confirmed the incident said the blasting was done by the construction firm in charge of the dualisation of the Kasoa-Winneba road.
The exercise, they said, was to clear the huge rocks that were underground.
Mr. Bawa expressed deep concerns about the contractor’s apparent neglect of essential safety protocols, which could have averted the disaster.
He highlighted the need for strict adherence to the Mineral Commission’s LI 2177 Section 175, which outlines critical procedures for blasting operations.
Mr Bawa urged the Attorney General to support victims in pursuing legal action against the company responsible for the incident.
