Policy think tank, IMANI Centre for Policy and Education has come to the salvation of electorates who seek to vote based on the manifestos by the various political parties in Ghana, saying most of the promises in the manifestos are unquantifiable.
The concerns raised by IMANI were based off some contents they identifies in the manifesto promises by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Movement for Change. They identified that many of the promises by these Political Parties contesting for Presidency lacked the ability for them to be measured, did not have specifications and also lacked actionable details.
According to them, these irregularities found in the promises will make it difficult for them to implement and also account for it should they be implemented.
“In each party, you see a lot more non-quantifiable promises. Most of the manifesto promises are big, but you can not quantify them or clearly identify the specific services they should deliver”, said Dennis Asare, a Senior Research associate at IMANI.
He further urged electorates to be critical in the evaluation of how feasible the campaign promises by the political parties can be, taking account the volatility of the country’s economic and social challenges. He also called for effective monitoring if such promises are implemented.
