MOMAG has blamed government for the now deplorable state of Ghana’s forest reserves and water bodies, saying it failed to act decisively in the fight against galamsey.

“In light of the government’s inaction, MOMAG is left with no choice but to consider a nationwide strike and this strike will impact momo transactions, bill payments, salary payments, and financial inclusion will also be affected,” Kingsley Amoako Atta, National Secretary of MOMAG stated.

Kingsley Amoako Atta, National Secretary of MOMAG made the following demands to government;

1. Declare a state of emergency over all water bodies
2. Cancel all mining leases that cross water bodies
3. Enforce laws and regulations governing mining activities
4. Provide alternative livelihood for illegal miners
