President Akufo-Addo has commissioned the $250m new Bank of Ghana headquarters in Accra.
The new BoG headquarters has been completed and commissioned today Wednesday, November 20, 2024, despite strong opposition from the minority in parliament and some Ghanaians.
The Minority in parliament raised concerns about the ongoing construction of the BoG’s new head office at North Ridge with them hitting the streets of Accra in a massive demonstration OccupyBoGProtest on July 30.
The minority caucus in parliament noted the Governor of the Central Bank and his board are engaging in wasteful spending on the new Bank of Ghana headquarters and have refused to answer questions on the latest cost of the building.
Mahama Ayariga, the member of parliament for Bawku Central also filed a formal petition raising concerns about the increase in project cost without approval from the Public Procurement Authority (PPA).
His petition was presented to the Office of the Special Prosecutor to probe, but the outcome of that probe remains a mystery with the facility now commissioned.
According to President Akufo-Addo, the new headquarters of the Bank of Ghana is a pivotal step in modernizing the nation’s financial infrastructure.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony of the new BoG headquarters, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr. Ernest Addison detailed the strategic significance of the new structure in coordinating the bank’s functions and advancing a stronger financial system.
He added that the foremost aim of the new headquarters is to modernize the bank’s activities by combining its multiple offices distributed within Accra under one roof.
The new Bank Of Ghana headquarters contains of three main blocks, the Tower, Urban and Amenities Blocks including basements, podiums, and ancillary facilities.
